SEARCHING FOR THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH? DON'T NEGLECT RETINOIDS

With aging, some phases of healing can be delayed because the skin is thinner, there are fewer sturdy blood vessels to bring in nutrient and immune cell-rich blood, there is less supportive collagen and oily sebum, and cell turnover is much slower. All of these factors affect the ability of tissue to regenerate and skin to heal. This is where retinoids come in..........

Retinoids work by telling surface skin cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth underneath. They inhibit the breakdown of collagen, the protein  that keeps the skin firm, and thicken the deeper layer of skin where wrinkles get their start. They are safe for long-term use.

These Vitamin A derivatives have been around for about 40 years in which the first came to market in the early 1970s as an acne-fighting drug -- still among its primary uses. Since then, they have been used to treat  wrinkles and blotchiness caused by sun exposure. Dermatologist's still regard them as indispensable in their anti-aging arsenal because there is so much science behind it.

I like to use retinoids as part of an overall skin-enhancing regimen that might include regular facial peels, Botox injections, and injectable fillers that erase lines around the mouth and eyes. You can have a facelift, but if you have discoloration, you won't have skin with clarity. You must incorporate great topicals!!! Retinoids are a must!!!
 GREAT SKIN LIFESTYLE

Not everyone is born with amazing genetics when it comes to beautiful skin......but this doesn't mean you can't have beautiful skin.We just have to have the proper knowledge to attain it!

There are many lifestyle factors contributing to that vibrant glow we all are in search for:

Exercise-   increases blood flow which carries oxygen and vital nutrients to cells throughout our body and helps to eliminate toxins. Not to mention, is a great stress reliever which  stress alone is so detrimental to our bodies including our skin.

Diet-  Healthy balanced meals that are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables containing powerful antioxidants to fight off free radical damage and aid in the production of collagen and elastin. Salmon and other oily fish (Mackerel, Sardines, and fresh Tuna)  which contain high amounts of  omega fatty acids that the body cannot produce on its own. These Omega rich protein sources will discourage skin dryness and inflammation, strengthening the cells membrane by helping to hold water in, which in turn keeps the cells hydrated.

Water- Moisturizes your skin from the inside out and flushes out toxic waste that can encourage acne.

Sunscreen - One of the most important ways to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots and other skin problems — as well as increase the risk of skin cancer.Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. When you're outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or perspiring. One of my favorites is Skin Medica's Daily Physical Defense which is :
  • Daily Physical Defense™ SPF 30+Ultra-sheer, broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection
  • Elegant 100% mineral formulation
  • Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic
  • PABA-free and fragrance-free
  • Helps protect against free radical damage
  • Oil-free formulation is light enough to be applied under make-up
  • Gentle enough for post-procedure and sensitive skin patients

Don't smoke-Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — can contribute to wrinkles.
